MegaFon, VimpelCom to hike archive tariffs on Monday, Thursday

MOSCOW, Jan 13 (PRIME) -- Russia’s leading mobile operators MegaFon and VimpelCom, working under brand Beeline, will raise the price of archive tariffs on Monday and Thursday respectively, PRIME reported on Monday.

A MegaFon spokesperson said the company revised terms of several archive tariffs as consumption increases, and the changes will impact a handful of clients.

A VimpelCom spokesperson said the company has to raise prices of archive tariffs because of the costs on implementation of laws and intensive expansion of infrastructure.

The country’s top mobile operator MTS declined to comment.

Head of information and research agency TelecomDaily Denis Kuskov said that more than 70% of subscribers use bundle tariffs.

“As to raising the archive tariffs, almost all operators are doing it now by moving subscribers to the tariffs with a big package of services: traffic, voice and SMSs, and a big price to get more revenue per operator and on a nationwide scale. I think it will impact up to a quarter of users of the subscriber base,” Kuskov said.
